In the end, it doesn’t matter how good the ads are. Or how much money you spend on them.Â
There are a few things your business needs to have in place or else your time, effort, and money are totally wasted.

#1 – The Product
Most businesses have this already. It’s either a service, like from a coach, real estate agent, or lawyer. Or, it’s actually a physical product, like sports equipment, t-shirts, or toasters.
Before promoting these products and services, however, it’s a good idea to test their viability in the marketplace. A good way to do this is offer it free (or a discount) for friends. Get some honest feedback and improve where necessary.
Once your product/service has been approved from different angles, you can feel more confident about starting to promote it! 🙂

#2 – The Platform
This is the hub of your business, like a storefront, or these days with so many people online, the website/ecommerce site. Note, there ARE exceptions. Some people I know, that work in construction, only ever needed their mobile flip phone. They seem to do well enough with referrals. On the other hand, these days it’s almost a requirement to have some sort of established presence, either physically or online.
If you want to do as little work as possible, a Facebook business page could be all you need. However, I do recommend having some sort of landing page or simple website, to have more control.
Either way, find a spot that’s easy and fun for you to use, that way you’ll be proud to start sending clients and customers there!

#3 – The Customers
Could you imagine a business without clients and customers? Still, it’s true. Many businesses don’t really understand who they’re trying to sell to. This is where niches can be born. Creating a Client Avatar can be extremely useful and at least give you some idea how to find, talk, and market to the right person. What are their interests? Their dreams? And especially, what motivates them?

#3 – The System (Strategy)
If a business has a product (#1), a place to sell it (#2), and customers (#3) then all should be easy right? But almost half of businesses still don’t make money. Why? Maybe it’s because many businesses, small to large, simply don’t have the right strategy in place to promote their products and services. Nor do they really know how to start. Most businesses need systems that:Â
- get the client’s attention
- introduce their product/service proposition
- follow up with them and deliver more value
Before starting to advertise, it’s crucial to have a workable plan to meet your business’ goals.

It’s really important to have certain things in place with your business before you start advertising. I’ve covered just a few them in this blog post. Once you do have them ready, it’s important to have a plan that helps you to reach your advertising goals!
